INTRODUCTION

What should you know about Indian culture?

Preparing for a trip is not just about planning the itinerary and packing, but also about understanding the culture and customs of the country you’re heading to. Our journey takes us to Rishikesh, one of India’s most spiritual cities, and it’s vital to be informed about the intricacies of everyday life and the local lifestyle. Grasping these aspects will aid in smoother acclimatization and help you make the most of your travel experience.
So, please take a moment to read and comprehend each of the following points:
FOOD AND DRINK

Culinary and Beverage Specifics

Indian food can be quite spicy, so request less heat if necessary. Carry a thermos or insulated bottle to ensure you always have access to safe water. Water can be refilled at our ashram’s dining hall (it is filter purified, free and SAFE).

The food in the ashram is tasty but simple and repetitive, so if needed, bring your favorite snacks, cereals, tea/coffee from home. Bear in mind that Rishikesh is a vegetarian city.
Many crave coffee in the morning; however, it’s not served in the ashram. Local cafes generally start service around 11 am when we’re already on the move. If you need your morning coffee, bring it with you and prepare it yourself.

Recomendation

Clothing

India is a deeply religious and conservative country. There are some no-nos in clothing regarding women. No open shoulders, if you are wearing a tank top cover your shoulders with a sarong. No short skirts, naked legs should not be exposed. Avoid wearing shoes with religious symbols printed on them.
